“The Lingering Smell of Woodsmoke” appears in the collection Slippage, 1997

Two things mark "The Lingering Scent of Woodsmoke" as different from other "Story Behind The Cover" stories. First, the illustration that this story is based on only appears inside the issue, since Harlan Ellison's Dream Corridor Vol. 2 consists of material that had meant for future issues of Harlan Ellison's Dream Corridor Quarterly that were not published. Second, because of the publishing history of the comic, "The Lingering Scent of Woodsmoke" actually first appeared in print in Ellison's 1997 collection Slippage.
